A New ACIM Book Study
We will be reading and discussing Ken Wapnick's masterful guide to the in's and out's of the unparalleled curriculum of A Course In Miracles. Ken has a knack for breaking down and unpacking the sometimes complex and confusing language of the Course, cutting a clear path through the tangle of words so that that we can increasingly understand and embody this mind-altering guidance that will breathe divine Life into our lives and relationships. In Forgiveness And Jesus, he shows how the Course aligns and differs from traditional Christianity. Although ACIM uses Christian terminology, it infuses new meaning into the all too familiar theological ideas like Holy Spirit, Son of God, Forgiveness, Resurrection, Christ, etc. Rather than arriving at the often rigid, dualistic, and harshly judgmental religious impasse, we are uplifted and ushered into a sublimely healing experience that opens into God union.
A "Gospel" For Our Time
One major distinction that sets A Course In Miracles apart from other spiritual teachings is its brilliant use of analytical psychology. According to the Voice of the Course, "Freud was the most accurate ego psychologist we ever had." This "Voice" does claim to be the resurrected Jesus Christ and, therefore, it could be said that Jesus, through Dr. Helen Schucman, is updating his gospel for us moderns. By deftly employing and fully illuminating Freud's half-lit insights and discoveries, Jesus shows us how to unveil and heal our maladaptive ego dynamics and deeply repressed unconscious patterns that block God's Love from our awareness. Ken, a doctor of clinical psychology and almost Trappist monk, is uniquely equipped to speak on these matters. His iconoclasm and intellectual rigor is only matched and exceeded by his love of Jesus and dedication to his Course.
